The Psychology of Self – Congruence:
Most people think integrity is about telling the truth.
It goes much deeper than that.
Psychologists use the term self-congruence to describe a person whose actions consistently align with their beliefs, values, and convictions.
In simple terms:
You are the same person in private and in public.
You don’t change your principles because money or opportunity is involved.
You don’t dilute your convictions because influential people are watching.
You don’t compromise your values because an opportunity is attractive.
A self-congruent person experiences internal discomfort when they betray what they know is right.
That is why some people cannot be bought.
Not because they are stubborn.
Not because they are rebellious.
But because losing their integrity would cost them more than losing the opportunity.
The greatest freedom in life is not financial freedom.
It is the freedom to stand before wealth, power, influence, praise, criticism, reward, or threat and remain the same person.
When your values are not for sale, your future is not for negotiation.
Integrity is expensive, but compromise costs more.
You cannot be called to help people discover and fulfill their purpose and lack Self – Congruence as a virtue, you will end up losing your own purpose because rich and influential people will give you a different purpose.
The reason why many leaders cannot speak truth to power today is because of this one thing.
