Many leaders spend time refining plans, setting goals, and mapping strategies, believing that clarity of direction comes from structure alone.
But if you look closely, something deeper is always at work.
Your desires are shaping your direction more than your plans ever will.
What pulls your attention is not random. What you return to in your quiet moments, what occupies your thoughts without effort, what you give your time to repeatedly, these are not small things. They are signals. They are forming the path your life is taking, whether you are conscious of it or not.
Plans may guide your steps, but desire determines where you truly go.
This is why two people can have the same strategy and produce completely different outcomes. One is driven by a deep inner hunger, the other by obligation or pressure. Over time, desire will always win. It fuels consistency. It sustains focus. It keeps you moving when discipline feels heavy.
So the real question is not just what are you planning, but what are you craving.
Because whatever you hunger for, you will eventually move toward.
This is where discernment becomes necessary. Not every desire leads to purpose. Some desires distract. Some dilute your energy. Some pull you into cycles that feel productive but leave you empty.

But there are deeper desires that carry weight. The ones that do not fade with time. The ones that return even after you try to ignore them. The ones that challenge you to become more than you currently are.
Those are not accidents.
In Psalm 37, there is a pattern that is often misunderstood. When your heart aligns with what is right, your desires begin to shift. They become less about impulse and more about purpose. Less about escape and more about expression.
So paying attention to your hunger is not indulgence. It is awareness.
It is the discipline of observing what is shaping your inner world before it quietly shapes your outer life.
If your desires are scattered, your direction will be scattered. If your desires are focused, your life will begin to align with that focus.
This is where many leaders lose clarity. They try to control outcomes without examining the inner forces driving their actions.
But transformation begins within.
So pause and look honestly at what draws you.
Not what sounds good in public. Not what is expected of you. But what you consistently give your energy to when no one is watching.
Because your hunger is leading you somewhere.
The only question is whether it is leading you toward purpose or away from it.
